Cinema for the Conscientious - 18 Sep, 3-5 pm
What: Cinema for the Conscientious
When: September 18, 2010
Time: 3-5 p.m.
Where: Dayton International Peace Museum (Annex room)
Film: May Justice Be Done (2007)
May Justice Be Done traces the roots of Argentina’s crisis in scholarly detail back to the lending policies of international financial institutions and corrupt government officials. Argentina was a rich country until the 1970’s and by 2001 more than 21 million people were living below the poverty level. The film also demonstrates how neoliberal economic policies in Argentina placed the country’s well being in the hands of financial speculators that led to mass unemployment, sharply rising poverty, and assaults on rights of workers and the poor. But the film also shows the resistance of ordinary people to neoliberal capitalism, and their struggles to build humane alternatives. The economic issues are clearly explained and the story is compassionate and compelling.

Blue Sky Project presents: There, But Not There
A solo exhibition by 2010 Blue Sky resident artist Michael Casselli of Yellow Springs
There, But Not There draws on the intangible nature of memory and the attempts to hold onto what is simultaneously vivid and obscured, the ephemeral artifacts of our accumulated experience. An act of quiet contemplation and ultimate loneliness, There But Not There comments upon the shared connection to the vague expanse of the lives that move in and out of our perceptual existence. Housed in the Armory in Dayton, There, But Not There presents a stark landscape of emptiness, and asks the viewer to silently take in the elusive sonic and visual elements that construct this experience, to investigate and allow themselves the time and patience to view the work . A musing on the spaces we cherish and our attempts to fill them up, with the memories and nostalgia for times past, the clutter of our lives both real and imagined.
Admission is FREE!
